Power shutdown X230...if it dies, shoudl I go for 2nd hand X230 or which new one?

The issue seems to plague a lot of people out there...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X ... -p/1853378

My previous post

the laptop suddenly powers off, no BSOD screen, event log at bottom of my post.
I bought a new battery, sent the laptop for MB diagnostics to a service shop, and the diagnostic found no error.
I am thinking about more tweaking but considering buying second hand..I have a docking station and expensive wan card, all lost investment if I buy new. From new ones, would you recommend 250, 260? it is very expensive for me at the moment...laptop 3+ years old, but there was one instance of coffee spilling on it and the MB may be rotting or oxidising irreversibly...
the error disappeared after the new battery for a few weeks, and now returned. That is why I am hesitating to deploy a clean install Win 7... it is a days work, others have tried it and did not help them. I cannot imagine a software issue that disappears for x weeks and then comes back, with the frequency of error increasing...what do you think?

event log The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Can anybody pls advice me about the differences between x250 and x 260? they are both available at similar prices. For me the touchpad seems enormously large, taking away space from the keyboard rows...is that so?
