Hi can anybody tell me please if x220 batteries will work ok in an x230.
What is the situation as I think i read that generation had a chip in them so may not? I am talking about OEM ones not replacements.
Thanks guys.
EDIT: mod please move to x230 board if you think more suitable? ( i just want a correct reply from anywhere :D )

You can use a (charged) X220 battery in an X230, but you can NOT charge it there.
But you can use an X230 battery in an X220 and charge it there as well.

X230 and its contemporaries all expect batteries with an authentication chip in it.
Blame Lenovo!

However, there's a modded X230-BIOS around, that eliminates this battery-check.
After applying that, you can use any battery you like.
Be careful though with any Chinese (or other) knock-offs!

Depending on your OS there are alternatives: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=80560

Many Thanks for the reply RBS that is incredibly helpful though not want i wouldve liked to hear :D Grr lenovo.
I actually made the mistake of buying a couple of used but good x220 batteries for a couple of x220 tablets
So will now have to sell them on. Just wanted to see if i could say they were suitable for x230 but alas no.
X220 tablet batteries are a lot harder to find & a lot more expensive especially in the UK. Cannot find any 2nd user ones. o Just ordered 1 OEM & 1 non OEM will see how i get on with them. I have been fairly lucky with the few non oem batteries i have had so fingers crossed that continues.

The link to the other thread is also very useful :) So Thanks again

Maybe try this? https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd011801
I have such a charger, but batteries for my X220 and X230 are both 29+ and 29++, chargeable in X220 and external.
I have no "real" X230 battery to try it.

I have this charger, it works so far with every battery I have tried, including X230 batteries.

Many Thanks once again RBS. I have tried the links but forgive me i am having a bit of difficulty getting my head round all the frus & numbers. Out of the 3 good batteries (2 bought in error 1 of my own) that i have for the x220 2 say 44+ in the red circle while one says 30+?
Now if i am reading this correctly from the link you very kindly provided (probably not  ) are the 44+ ones maybe compatible with the x230? As if so i could sell as such & keep the other for my x220? anyway to determine from the exterior if they have the chip needed? I dont have an x230 to test with & no plans to get one anytime soon but if i can verify they will work that would be great. If not no problem i certainly do not want to risk my good feedback rating on ebay by listing something i am not 100% happy with being right & as described.
I cannot see a ref to the 30+ one?

44+ frus are 45N1172

30+ fru is 45N1710

I don't know what a 30+ is, but the 44+ or 44++ batteries are x220/X230 compatible.

Many Thanks mpcook that is much appreciated so i can now safely sell these as x230 compatible as they are chipped :D
I will have to try & do some further research on the 30+1 unless somebody on here can shed some light?
