X240 base screw location

#1 Post by halap3n0 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 6:49 am

Hi
The hardware maintenance manual does not specify which screws go where, there are 2 types used in the base. I think the longer one goes in the middle to pull the keyboard down, but really not sure. Doesn't anyone know or is there a diagram anywhere?

I want to buy a new set and make sure they are in the correct position, because previously one fell out, the keyboard was raised up slightly, and made marks on the screen.

Thanks

According to eBay there seem to be 3 different types of screws, all with a plastic O-ring: http://www.ebay.com/itm/182291485201
The ones with thicker shaft should be traceable, the others you'll need to try carefully.
Check if the keyboard or other palmrest part moves up when you turn the screws all the way in.
With the bottom already in place, stick e.g. a needle/toothpick in the holes to see how deep they are.
Good luck.

Apparently those screws are NOT supposed to be completely removed, just loosened!
That's what the O-rings are for: to keep loosened screws in place.

And that's also what the HMM says:

Hi, thanks, when I got the machine it had already been opened, there were only about 2 o rings. I will try your ideas with the toothpick.

Thanks
