X230 Fan Noise Windows 10
My 2013 X230 i7 is experiencing a noisy fan, even it idle. I am running Windows 10 and have the TP Fan controller app and right now it shows me at ~70 degrees C and 3768 RPM. Is this just a symptom of an aging system? It doesn't seem that hot, nor does that speed seem so high.
Any help thinking this through is appreciated.

Re: X230 Fan Noise Windows 10
My X220 and X230 have been in use for years and both fans are nice and quiet. Probably should have a fan replacement, and it cheap.

Checked on YouTube and it looks like you have to tear the whole thing down to replace the fan.
If someone else has done this with an X230, would love to hear if they thought it was worth it. If worth it, where'd you get the fan, and how much?

You have to strip it indeed, but it's actually quite friendly to work on.
Have you confirmed that there's no processes that are hogging the CPU and causing the excessive temps?

I've done at least half a dozen.
Make a quick drawing of where the screws go and tape them on there.
A 4-year old laptop def. needs fresh thermal paste (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut or Hydronaut).
New fans on the feebay.

There's a guide here:
http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/lenovo ... -keyboard/
Otherwise you can find plenty of youtube dissasembly videos.
I think the operation took me around an hour, but make sure you have more time available, just in case

Both look OK to me, but I have not yet needed a replacement.
Re: X230 Fan Noise Windows 10
Why are you buying a fan straight off?
Have you confirmed that the temperatures are actually getting high? Also, that it is not software related?

Have you tried cleaning the heatsink and applying new thermal paste?

Fan is whining right now, and TPFan control is reporting 69 (C) and fan at 3754 RPM. CPU is fluctuating around 33% with nothing spiking.

Re: X230 Fan Noise Windows 10
If it's the first time you're opening up the machine, the fan is probably somewhat worn anyway.
Ie just change the fan when you're doing it anyway. Otherwise you may have to open it up again and replace the fan

33% is a lot if you're expecting idle.kennyschiff wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 8:00 amFan is whining right now, and TPFan control is reporting 69 (C) and fan at 3754 RPM. CPU is fluctuating around 33% with nothing spiking.
You can clean out these fans and lube the axle shaft they sit on. It's quite straightforward once you get the actual fan out.
When you say whine, does it sound abnormal whatever the fan speed is? Or does it sound like the fan is just running loud all of the time?

Re: X230 Fan Noise Windows 10
It fluctuates, but there is a decided whine to it... regarding the 33%, there is stuff like Crashplan (backup) and MS antimalware the contribute to it, but it's not any one thing, lots of little things.
