X230 with ssd micron c400 - low speed after reboot
X230 with ssd micron c400 - low speed after reboot
Hi.
I have SSD Micron C400 MTFDDAK128MAM-1J1 firmware 070H (3pcs) and Thinkpad x230 (3pcs)
Problem with sequential write:
Turn on laptop - up to 200Mb/s.
Reboot - up to 30Mb/s.
Sleep-wake up - again up to 200Mb/s.
Problems are with all three laptops. Not depends of ac adapter, battery, battery charge level, power plan. No BSOD.
What NOT helped:
Win7, Win7 with latest drivers, Win7 with drivers from site, Win7 from Lenovo recovery.
Win10, Win10 with latest drivers, Win10 with drivers from site.
Intel Rapid, SSD Tweaker.
BIOS versions, old, latest, not latest...
Can't change firmware, said you have latest.
One ssd was installed into HP DV6 and working well, in one x230 was installed EVO 850 500Gb - all good.

Re: X230 with ssd micron c400 - low speed after reboot
This MIcron C400 in capacity of 128GB like any 128GB or smaller tend to have very low write bandwidth plus should be partitioned to 120GB so 8GB is left alone for defect reallocation.
And this SSD came out in 2012. Even that age and C400 with poor reviews (50% typically). I would just swap them all out for MX300 or EVO 850 or EVO 860 all 240GB or 480GB.
Also how full is the Micron C400 currently? If too full, TRIM garbage collection will make performance goes into dive.
Cheers, thinkpadcollection.

Now each ssd have 2 partitions, 14gb for lenovo recovery and other for windows. Only windows installed, nothing else.
If not put laptop to reboot - ssd works well.

Ugh. You should nuke the recovery portion to begin with, IMO and IME.
Most SSDs also need unallocated - as in "not partitioned" - space in order to function properly. The way I do it, 25% capacity is the bare minimum.
Proper alignment of the partition(s) is another matter to be looked at.
C400 was never the fastest drive around, but I've installed dozens of them in various builds and have yet to see one fail. They are pretty durable IME, although an X230 would most certainly benefit from a newer drive.

Re: X230 with ssd micron c400 - low speed after reboot
500MB/s read and 175MB/s write for 128GB Micron C400 and there were firmware update for the C400. But best to retire C400 now at 6 years old and replace with decent modern SATA 2.5 SSD like Samsung or Crucial MX300 in 240GB capacity the read is about same but buying at 240GB size the write jumps to 400-500MB/s.ajkula66 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 07, 2018 7:14 amUgh. Treat the any storage data so important that one retire drives SSD or Hard drive after 5-7 years if used heavily. Occasionally clone the data to backup hard drive via ultrabay adapter.

Re: X230 with ssd micron c400 - low speed after reboot
I have the same problem with a Micron C400 MTFDDAK128MAM-1J1 firmware 070H (OEM part produced for HP) in a T60. The SSD hasn't seen much use, so 99% of total lifetime write volume is still left. T60s run only SATA1 (~ 115 MB/s) anyway so so point in retiring the SSD.
Write performance in Windows 7 in some situations (after reboot) is capped hard at 30 MB/s.
Putting it into standby and waking it up again returns the write performance to normal.
It seems to be the HP OEM firmware not liking the competiton. I have found another post on a german forum that has this SSD doing the same in an X220 while running at full speed all the time in a desktop PC.
Bottom line: Stay away from OEM stuff.
