The X250 added back physical trackpoint buttons because like you many people hated the buttonless version.

It should be possible to retrofit the X250 touchpad with the trackpoint buttons onto the X240. At least with T series it's possible.

I found topić about touchpad replacement, but I can vice it back, so better to buy x250 than looking for parts, cost will be similary.

I suggest you do like many of us: replace that clunkpad with the touchpad+buttons from the X250.
Make sure you get a Synaptics pad, NOT an Alps pad.
The pad costs about $25, a lot cheaper than buying another laptop!
I have an X240 and a rare X240s, both with X250 pad.
They can have THREE SSDs in them, more than most!

Where did you find it? I've been looking for a x240s during months and I only found some for a very expensive price, or on chinese market shops.

I bought a nice x240 for a cheap price a month ago, with i5, ssd ips touch and 8go memory, but no FHD unfortunally. The ips screen is just awesome in comparison of the TN screen of my x201 or t430s.
The touchpad is quit different but I love it, it reminds me the same than my old macbook pro from 2012. The keyboard is not as good as the one from my t430s but it's cool.

I wanted a 12" ultrabook with cool screen and configuration, and with an incredible battery life without having to underclock it : with the 3cell + a 6cell 72wh, it gives me 16hours of battery with wifi on. I don't need to up the brightness more than 20-30% because the screen is really nice. I'm at 5-6kw/h every time. I plan to add a msata ssd and then it's going to be all right.

After 3 weeks of daily use, I know this x240 is going to follow me every where during a long time :)

My X240s is a rather mysterious (most likely) prototype of the official X240s, that has no docking connector.
It died an untimely death, but with numerous overdoses of TLC and all sorts of magic I was able to bring it back to life.
I call it PhoeniX, as in the bird that rises from the ashes
You will soon hear more about it...

AFAIK X240s do not have docking connectors (For some odd reason). Reddit User /u/HouseAtre1des managed to hack a Docking Connector onto his. (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comme ... of_a_kind/)

Still, the X240s is a amazing machine, and there is one on sale near me in a shop for 240 USD, but as it is equipped with the 768p Touch (Glossy) it turned me off slightly. That and the price tag.

Can you explain this?

X240s with a docking connector and a clear bezel?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

All I can say is it prob is a pre-production model or a Frankenpad.

Yep, check the model number (BIOS and sticker) - 3333-333; obviously a pre-production unit.

That's indeed an X240s prototype.
I worked on another X240s prototype with MTM 1234-567, honestly.
And I now also have an X240s with MTM 20AK-A00SHH, originally apparently a "student machine" from Japan, that sold new there for 7850 yuan = $1,141.60
Ex factory specs: X240S-20AKA00SHH, i7-4500u, 1T/5400 rpm, 24GB SSD [in special M.2 2242 adapter under battery], 8GB RAM, Intel HD4400, 12.5" 1366X768 / IPS, backlit keyboard, 7260-AC wifi, Bluetooth, fingerprint, webcam, 2 internal batteries, [no docking connector]
I replaced the clunkpad with an X250 Synaptics touchpad+buttons.

7850 yuan? I'm pretty sure that's CNY, which is Chinese. If you see a X240s with US Keyboard, there's a chance it's Chinese, thanks to whoever decided to just use the US Layout with added Layer Characters. Now we perpetually live in fear of accidentally hitting CTRL+Space during Gaming and switching keyboard inputs.

The Google Translate came up with Yuan, no idea if correct or not.

I'm Chinese and yep, your X240s is most likely not from JAP but CN, if that matters. Does it have the JP Keyboard?
