Hello,
Is the cable / inverter set same for both IPS and TN LCDs? I have found a very cheap X230 w/TN panel that I'd like to swap, and IPS LCDs are relatively cheap and easily-obtainable.

1) I'm assuming you mean only cable, since inverters don't come in LED backlight machines.
2) There should be no reason it isn't a direct swap, same resolution, same formfactor, same machine.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Best HD IPS screen is the LP125WH2-SLT1 (also used in the Lenovo Twist S230).
Some come with, others without touchscreen.
Apparently you can remove the touch-part from those screens, but I never tried that, as I found the non-touch screens.
