Did X260 X270 (or T46-80) have the option for a 3rd m.2 SSD?

#1 Post by madicetea » Sat Oct 20, 2018 4:30 am

Hi guys.

My X250 now has a 3rd drive (Windows, Hackintosh, Linux) thanks to the NGFF SSD adapter and cable option. I thought that is cool, and so has a friend.

However, he finds a 5th gen CPU slightly old (and he is slightly right) and he was curious if any of the later gen X or T, supporting extended battery life had the option for this 3rd drive.

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK only **40 and **50 series had that (M.2 NGFF 2242) 3rd drive option via adapter-board+cable.
Technically only a one-sided SSD fits on the adapter-board, but it looks like you can also force a double-sided SSD onto it, if you don't mind bending the adapter-plate.
I'd be afraid to break the SSD-contacts, but that's me.

Thanks. In that case, as it will just be a small Linux drive, I'll try to see what the largest one-sided SSD in 2242 size would be. (I feel the current 16GB drive that came with it to be a bit of a stretch.)
