How to fix Burn marks on the palmrest X240 ?

#1 Post by Droider » Tue Feb 12, 2019 5:33 am

Hello everyone,

I have some small but irritating burn marks on my x240 palmrest. Got it used condition this way. I appriciate any help to get rid of these marks without replacing the palmrest. The thinkpad logo was also damaged with burns so i had to replace it with a sticker i could find around. Thanks.

You can try rubbing them with Isopropyl Alcohol (91% or higher) on a microfiber cloth.
If the burn marks are no worse than what is shown on that picture, I wouldn't worry too much.

In Europe and USA it's available over the counter in most pharmacies, in USA also in most supermarkets.

I buy my IPA through ebay, 1 Gallon at a time.

Usually I buy a gallon per week as I use it to clean a multitude of things. I use it on all sorts of devices as well as around the home, on bicycles, cars, watches et-al..

Umm.....that's an incredible amount of IPA to be going through a week. Do you use this stuff as lawnmower fuel or something because I honestly can't figure out how much stuff I could clean to use up 1 gallon of IPA in a week.

A gallon a week? That's nothing. We are talking about Indian Pale Ale here, no? 8)

Haha....well I don't think the OP is getting Indian Pale Ale on eBay.

Umm.....maybe he is??

I use a gallon per week because I use it around the home and for cleaning a lot of other things besides computers.

Kitchen Worktops & cabinets, internal doors, a fully tiled bathroom, window glass, picture frames, furniture, stereo equipment, AV equipment, computers & Laptops, bicycles, et-al all get a daily wipe over with the stuff.

I use around a pint of IsoPropylAlcohol per day and since there is only 8 pints in a gallon, I need to buy a Gallon per week to ensure I have what I need.

I'd figure Windex would be cheaper easier and better cleaning.
