[X250] - testing/benchmarking used systems?

#1 Post by limbrooke » Sun Mar 24, 2019 2:18 pm

I recently got the opportunity to buy a model 20CL-S18S00 X250 (Full HD IPS screen) and was given the opportunity to try before I buy.

Having said that, it seems to work alright but if I've got a little time to work with it (a few days) I wanted to inquire about potential software/methods to test and benchmark the unit to make sure its operating normally. Any advice is appreciated.

I would recommend testing the processor's stability with Prime95 v29.4 build 8 (x64), but do make sure that it is running with the 'Small FFTs' option. For absolute stability, 24 hours is recommended. If it is nothing serious, I would go for 12 hours instead.

For the graphics chip, I highly recommend FurMark 12 hours is my recommendation, but you could always do 10 hours instead.

You could also test the RAM modules' stability with Linpack Xtreme 1.1.1, and the same thing applies, though it is either 8 hours or 12 hours of it running. I would suggest you to use the maximum amount of memory that is available for Linpack Xtreme, for the sake of stability.

This might be a little extreme for a laptop, although it is what I usually do to test if my overclocked machines are absolutely stable.

First things to check:
- BIOS has NO passwords
- Computrace is NOT Enabled
