EDID-chip location on X230, X240, X250 and newer FHD screens
Who knows exactly where the EDID chip is located on LG IPS FHD screens such as used in FHD-modded X230, X240, X250 etc.?
Talking specifically here about LP125WF2-SPB2, LP125WF2-SPB3 and LP125WF2-SPB4
PS: never mind any mounting holes, they can be removed.

Found it:
You need to turn the screen over (rear facing you), then carefully peel the black tape from the PCB-strip.
You'll see a metal rectangle, that also needs to be removed (optional, read on first).
Underneath that piece of metal is the TSSOP8 EDID-chip, tiny, with 8 legs.
When you turn the LCD over again, you lift the black tape from the PCB-strip again.
You'll now find 5 EDID solder pads/test-points underneath the location of the EDID-chip.
Pad WP-7 (Write-Protect) is the one I'm after.
For pictures, see this: https://imgur.com/a/WHSZ4iM
AFAIK if you connect WP via a 10kOhm to GND/Vss you remove the write-protect.
Another option may be to unsolder/cut that WP-7 leg from the EDID and leave it 'hanging/loose, to achieve the same.
Once the WP is removed, any EDID Read/Write program can be used to modify the EDID content
and get BRIGHTNESS CONTROL working!
I have NOT YET tested any of the above.
That's why I really want some experienced person's opinion on which method is the best, or whatever else...

For those that don't want to bother with EDID-programming, try this: DimScreen

I can confirm this program works for dimming the screen....just not in saving my battery life.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 3:21 pmFor those that don't want to bother with EDID-programming, try this: DimScreen
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
