X250 Advice in BIOS Upgrade

#1 Post by JoseAntonio » Wed May 22, 2019 2:15 am

Hello, I just bought a brand new X250 20CL from an old stock. It came with a 500gb hdd plus a 16gb ssd drive (I understand that for cache functions). The idea is to install an ssd as a main disk, either m.2 sata or 2.5 ". Do I have to take any precautions when updating the bios? I currently have version 1.19 My concern is whether the later versions add any limitations in the wifi or m.2 whitelist or not allow me to do something that with older versions of the BIOS is possible.Thank you in advance for any information.

Welcome to our ThinkPad forums!

We have a very similar model ThinkPad X250 as you (ours is 20CM-002SHH), which also had 500 GB HDD + 16 GB SSD (for cache purposes).

1. We did successfully upgrade to a SATA 2.5" SSD for our X250.
Please note that the physical connections on your X250 can only accommodate a SATA 2.5" HDD or SSD.

2. Provided that you've only upgraded your HDD>>SSD, we also confirm that upgrading your BIOS on X250 would not cause any incompatibility with your new 2.5" SSD.

Good luck upgrading your X250 !
