X250 - pale screen

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:12 am

The keyboard and trackpad in my wife's trusty X250 failed, so I bought a replacement X250 on eBay and installed the SSD from the old machine into the new one. All seems well, except that the screen looks pale, and my guess is that my wife's machine had an IPS screen and the replacement doesn't. Is there an easy way to figure this out?

And if the new machine has a different screen from the old one, is it possible simply to swap the lids between the two machines? The HMM (pp. 81-84) makes it look simple enough for an unskilled person like me, but I'm not clear whether it's simply a matter of pulling out one and installing the other.

Thanks for any advice!

HWINFO (32 or 64) will give you exact information about the screen: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/
Swapping the complete lid would be fairly easy.
Remove the bottom cover, follow the instructions in the HMM.
Make sure to remove external and disconnect internal battery first.

And you're right. It wasn't hard at all - but getting all those wires dressed correctly was a minor headache for someone who had never done it before...

Thank you again!

Glad to hear you got it done.
I would have offered to do it for you, but the pond is a little too wide...

I'm going to need to learn some self-reliance. I'm tempted to take apart the coffee-damaged machine in order to learn how to replace the keyboard and trackpad, something I would ONLY have asked you to do before this...
