Thinkpad X240 Beep code help.

Hi all,

Was hoping someone could shed some light on an issue I'm having with my Thinkpad X240.

I purchased this under spares or repairs in the hopes I could fix it up and use it, but unfortunately I'm at a wall with this post BIOS beeping.

Here is a video of the beeping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq8RSN_ ... e=youtu.be

I haven't had much luck finding anything online regarding the beep pattern so was wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

I've tried 4 different sticks of RAM so a RAM issue is ruled out, CMOS battery disconnected for an hour to still no avail. Everything inside looks intact.

Any help would be appreciated, even if you say I have a dead bored, at least I'll know.

Many thanks!

Does your X240 have a clunkpad or a touchpad-with-3-buttons?
Check if that pad's flat-cable underneath is attached properly on both ends.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

On further inspection there is infact a small ribbon cable that does not attach to the board and there seems to be nowhere for it to connect? Please see pictures..

And it is a clunky type touchpad.

Is there possibly something missing from my laptop where this ribbon cable should attach to?

Many thanks.

X240 needs low-voltage (1.35V, DDR3L) RAM, yours doesn't seem that type.
On pic-1 that cable goes partly to the -pad, partly to the fingerprint reader, and partly somewhere I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it. (I have three X240 machines, none with that cable).
On pic-2 that is the main connector for the 3rd SSD-on-adapter, which you do not have, so ignore.

Hi,

Ah okay, I'll order some correct RAM and see if that could be causing issues.

Many thanks.
