X260 - Blinking led indicator when turned off

#1 Post by kohai2 » Thu Sep 19, 2019 3:04 am

Hello there, I searched for similar issues in the forum, but didn't find such topic.

So my issue consist of blinking led indicator of power button (the red dot in Thinkpad logo also) when the laptop is turned off. My laptop is Thinkpad X260, i5, 16GB DDR4 with SSD. To clarify:
- The laptop is not in sleeping mode, but shutted down (Os: Debian 9), yet it will act same way even without OS (I've tried turning on/off the laptop without any SSD/HDD);
- Batteries are charging when AC is connected, and also they work with their normal capacity;
- When AC charger is connected, there is no blinking;
- When the removable battery is removed laptop still blink;

Thinkpad manual refer to this as sleeping state, but as mentioned above I always shut down my PC. The issue is not preventing me in any way to use the laptop, but I like to fix it. Thank you in advance for any help!

If you run W10, there's your problem.
W10 standard does not fully shut down, but goes into some sleep mode instead.

To fully shut down: open Start menu, select Power button.
Hold the Shift key down while clicking on Shut down, and then release the Shift key to perform a full shutdown.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

Apologies, must've read too fast without absorbing everything. :oops:
I've seen it stop (on an X240) by connecting/removing AC.
Otherwise no idea.

I found the source of issue, thanks to deep research with the help of Thinkpad X240 and Thinkpad X250. So any inner or outer battery won't charge in Thinkpad X260 - tested with 4 different Chargers. But any Battery will charge with Thinkpad X240 and Thinkpad X250, with any Charger. Which mean the motherboard of X260 is not charging batteries. So when there is such problem, Thinkpad X260 will blink its LED, as it do when in Sleep mode, even is shutted down completely. As X220, X230 user I'm actually quite disappointed from the quality in X260. But this is mu luck.

Any way if someone else have same issues - you need new motherboard, or someone who can change power chips on the motherboard...which are soldered :roll:
