upgrading, sort of, X230 to windows 10 pro

#1 Post by TinkerMan » Tue Jan 07, 2020 1:32 pm

so, i just upgraded my x230 from w7 pro to win 10 pro, yes, they still give the upgrades for free as long as the w7 key is legit, or almost legit.

out of the box the sound and luminosity bars work, as well as the thinklight . however i lost the power manager , as expected. i tried to install the vantage app but i cant make it to work/install in offline mode, meaning i dont want to use the microsoft app store , any suggestions?

also what other w10 drivers are there available for the X230?

One thing I have found with my T430s, is let windows update install the drivers. I tried putting on the Lenovo drivers on mine and it started acting up, so I just reloaded it, loaded that Vantage app and then let windows update find everything it could.

Most of the functionality is now baked right into Windows I am finding, things like the OSD and so on. I'm not a big Windows 10 fan, but I can admit that the driver search does seem to function a lot better than it use to.

I'm typically a minimalist as well though, I try to keep my disk usage as low as possible though, so typically I have little installed over all, and a nearly clean tray as well.

I have an X230 right here. It is running Windows 10 Pro V2004 (advanced Windows Insider). Lenovo Vantage or System Update (I use this) keeps BIOS, Chipset and all drivers up to date. No issue. It is a type 2306 CTO (Made to order). All the Windows 10 functionality works fine and I have Office 365 on it as well (5 license subscription).

So get the drivers up to data and all should be well.
