3x2 lcd on x230 doable?

#1 Post by vavet » Wed Mar 04, 2020 4:36 am

Hi,
saw the pics of a custom x2100 machine based on the 51nb board with a 13" 3x2 screen. Looks gorgeous.

Now thinking if I could install the same screen on an x230 using the fhd kit. but Not sure if the driver board will support higher resolution (3000x2000) .

Any thought on this?

I am now wishing I had the know-how to design and build a modernized Planar for the x230, just for that screen, but keeping the ability to use the existing ports, slots and peripherals, especially the 19+ slice.

the vertical space available on an x230 lid is about 194mm, horizontal about 296mm
if we take LP130QP1-SPA1
http://www.panelook.com/LPM130M364_JDI_ ... 40104.html

it should fit.

the main issue is the controller
there are these contrillers available

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3301085 ... 2e0euRJCwH

as they are built for t430 there is a chance to match x230 lcd connector as well, but they support up to 1440p.
Questions here are:

1. will it scale up to 2000p ? (probably not)
2. will it support lower 3x2 resolution 2160×1440 propertly. how good will be the picture quality?
3. what about displayport pin usage (done for FHD mods on x230) is it possible to use this for 3000x2000 output?

There is also another 3x2 display option available with native 2160×1440 resolution, but the haight is 196mm.

any input is appreciated!

From what I've read, the Intel HD 4000 doesn't support 60Hz refresh rate at resolutions above 2560x1600, so it's best to stick to 1440p.

in such case I will have to consider x201 with P130ZFA-BA1 (13.0" 2160×1440) as it has more vertical space on the lid. It alsoo supports up to 2560x1600 on displayport.
the only challenge would be the connection to display port pins.

Any thoughts on available pinouts?

Didn't those 51nb guys find unused eDP circuit traces on the X201 which they used for a similar HiDPI mod?
