Thinkpad X230 only turns on with Fingerprint scanner

#1 Post by jimiweber » Sat Jul 11, 2020 2:58 am

Hi. I have a very recent problem with my power button. Since yesterday, my laptop does not turn on with the power button, and I need to scan my fingerprint. In general, this seems ok and even good, but in this case, no one but me can use this computer. I am not aware if this is a BIOS update or not though.

In BIOS setup, there are several options to disable fingerprint authentication for startup. But none of them clearly indicates that if I disable it, the laptop will again turn on with the power button.I am afraid that if I disable it, I won't be able to turn in on again. Please give me a solution.

By the way, my laptop currently runs Windows 10 Pro Version 2004 OS Build 19041.329 and all the latest updates are installed.

It's possible that the power button is defective. I've seen it happen in other Thinkpads. You'll need to replace the keyboard.
