What's this electronic component on the X240 motherboard?

#1 Post by alcladii » Sun Dec 13, 2020 2:42 am

Hi, I've just replaced the motherboard of my X240, and noticed that one small component was missing from the motherboard I purchased compared with the original one. It looks like a small switch. The laptop runs normal after the replacement. I've tested all the ports and connection, flashed the BIOS, nothing seems to have a problem. Could any body tell me what this component is? (the one in the red circle) What it's used for? Is it important?

AFAIK that's the 'tamper' switch that notifies you if the laptop's bottom was 'illegally' opened.
Can be En-/Dis-abled in BIOS/Security/Internal Access.
Fugeddit. :)

Does “bottom” mean the bottom cover of the laptop? Does “illegally opened” means non-factory opened? In other words, it does not affect the actual usage of the laptop at all? Thank you
