SSD for X250 Type 20CL

#1 Post by mixz1 » Sun Jan 24, 2021 9:29 am

I really like this light and responsive machine. Thinking of going the SSD route but it's something I am woefully ignorant of. I see two type of SSDs; One type resembles a hard drive in size and utilizes the existing SATA connectors. The other type resembles an IC on a board with edge connectors. I don't know which one is preferable and I don't know if my X250 is even prepared for the flat card edge connector type of SSD. Any advice and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

X250 can take 2.5" SSD (up to 9.5mm high) in its main bay.
Recommended: Samsung 860 EVO, any size GB.

It can also take M.2 SSD via its M.2 card slot.
Some people put the OS on it and then use the 2.5" for storage.

You decide what you need.

We have X250 (Model No. 20CM-002SHH), and have:

1) After-market 2.5" SATA SSD (9.5mm as RBS said).

2) We also have a half-sized "2242" (ie: 22x42mm) PCIe SSD 16GB, used as our permanent Paging File (Swap File).

ie: The X250 by itself cannot accommodate any "full-sized "2280" (ie: 22x80mm) PCIe SSD.

Perhaps using adapters might work, but we have no experience in this.
