[X230i Tablet] How to re-install Windows (new SSD without recovery partition)
[X230i Tablet] How to re-install Windows (new SSD without recovery partition)
Hello everybody...
I had to change the hard drive of my X230i Tablet, and I would like to know how to re-install Windows 7 Pro on the new hard drive (which does not have the Lenovo recovery partition).
Thank you in advance.

It would be easier to install W10. Microsoft offers the installation media on the website. If your system already had W8 or W10 installed there should be a key in the BIOS to automatically license W10. Then just select the version that matches what came on the system.
The alternative requires recovery media that matches X230i. You can order recovery media from Lenovo for a fee. You could also download recovery media for free if you are taking advantage of the downgrade program but I'm not sure what the requirements for that are.

@ davidgurvich : Thank you for your answer !
I don't think that W8 or W10 were installed on my X230i Tablet. And I only have the license that is on the sticker, under the battery.davidgurvich wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 3:20 pmIt would be easier to install W10. I would like to re-install W7 Pro for free with the original license (sticker) if it is possible.davidgurvich wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 3:20 pmThe alternative requires recovery media that matches X230i. You can order recovery media from Lenovo for a fee.
The serial number of my X230i Tablet gives "This is not a valid Windows machine for the recovery media program.".davidgurvich wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 3:20 pmYou could also download recovery media for free if you are taking advantage of the downgrade program but I'm not sure what the requirements for that are.

Tablet and non-tablet W7 should not be all that different, so read this: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=128170

Re: [X230i Tablet] How to re-install Windows (new SSD without recovery partition)
Hello everybody !
I am coming back to you because I am encountering some difficulties...
theterminator93 has provided me with the images of the three DVDs: 0B83761, 0B83787 and 0B73521.
When I boot with DVD 0B83761 I have this :
then this :
and then this :
My problem is that the "Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4" screen remains for a few seconds, and my X230i Tablet reboots ... endlessly ! I let it go for a good 15 minutes ...
As for the other two DVDs, the boot does not take.
Have any of you ever faced this kind of problem?
Do you have a solution for me?
Thank you in advance !

Actually, I'm not sure the DVD images (0B83761, 0B83787 and 0B73521) are correct... because I saw this: :

Get a Win7 2018 image from Heidoc.net with their Windows / Office ISO Downloader tool.

Re: [X230i Tablet] How to re-install Windows (new SSD without recovery partition)
@ dr_st :
Thank you for your answer.
I've downloaded the "Windows-ISO-Downloader", and I have three questions :
1. How to know if my X230i Tablet needs a 32 bits or 64 bits version of Windows 7 Pro ? It's not mentionned... Can I know that with the key ?
2. The Windows 7 (August 2018) images seem to be in english. Is it possible to switch in french after ?
3. Does these versions include X230i Tablet drivers ?

Re: [X230i Tablet] How to re-install Windows (new SSD without recovery partition)
1. Both 32-bit and 64-bit will work. I believe most laptops of that generation came preloaded with the 64-bit, which is what I recommend, unless you have 4GB of RAM or less.
2. Sorry, I did not realize at first that that ISO is limited to English. You can add support for any number of languages, but to change the UI to another one - may require a language pack. The "Ultimate" edition, I believe, has them as optional addons through Windows Update, but for "Professional" (which is what these machines are licensed for) it may be a bit tricky.
3. No, these are standard ISOs which will not include any Lenovo-specific drivers. These can always be installed through Lenovo System Update.
