I may have destroyed the audio card when doing some superficial dusting of the x230 insides. I removed the keyboard and palm rest and used the dusting spray wherever it could reach.
Unfortunately, some droplets went out along with the gas. I waited overnight until reassembling the device. Upon restarting windows 7, it said something about the need to restart for changes to be applied (my guess is this might be somehow related), which I did.
There is no sound now either via speakers or headphones, although all the drivers appear to the Device manager to be 'working properly'.
What to do? Please help.
UPDATE
needed to remove the drivers and restart the system Looks like there were no hardware issues.
