unsolved: x230 bluetooth recurring problem on windows 7 64

#1 Post by TOTAL » Mon Aug 30, 2021 7:04 pm

Hi
This issues is as complicated as can get. The driver found on https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/prod ... nd%20Modem sometimes works and sometimes doesn't to a Bluetooth 5.0 speaker which works at all times with android phone.

sometimes the device panel opens only for a while after which there it switches off with a notification that it should be started not in admin mode.

A 4.0 speaker did work more reliably, but I don't have it anymore.

Sometimes the connection does not work and the notification prompts trying again (! what a nonsense advice to be given by system!).

When all hope is lost, sometimes opening the panel of another device - headphones which are more reliable, the speaker panel does open, too, and the connection works, but at other times even the headphones' panel is affected.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Sometimes, this makes it work for a while.

My memory is that the previous thinkpad (x200) was as unreliable for Bluetooth as x230.

Is there a sure way to get this to work each time?

The BT might be bad.
Try it with a new wifi/BT card such as AC-7260 with BT4.0 or AX200 with BT5.0.
Both will need the wifi-whitelist removed through e.g. Ivyprep/1vyrain.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I bought a usb dongle v5 one and appears to be working just fine - faster configuration and overall much better. Thanks a lot

I've also found this (though under Linux).. the built in wifi trying to do bluetooth audio just drops out constantly. I also have the same problems with AX200 BT under Linux (though it works fine on my wife's x230 under windows 10 with AX200, so that must be a Linux issue). I got an edimax BT-8500 BT 5.0 dongle, and it works perfectly in Linux, I can highly recommend it. Especially with an internal USB converter board from aliexpress to make it hidden. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002489857902.html

The issue came back soon after. The speaker connects until a reboot, then needs readding but sometimes does not get readded in which case reinstalling the drivers sometimes does the trick.

Is there a whitelisting step by step from someone who has done that?

What is this wifi whitelisting about? Is it that some whole series of thinkpads are incapable of bluetooth without issues? How come they have such a good reputation? My previous one was x200 and it was amazing, although as I think back, there were bt issues too.
