any successful egpu mod for x240?

#1 Post by nocx » Wed Apr 27, 2022 8:34 am

I've been daily driving my x240 which was bought 2nd-hand and is extremely satisfied as an average user.
However, as of late, i have been slowly getting back into playing games and i didn't want to buy a different laptop or a new pc.
I've been looking into adding an egpu thru the extra ports in the motherboard but to no avail i find no materials regarding the x240 specifically.

Im wondering if there are people here who have successfully done it and what set up did they do to accomplish it.

many thanks to those who respond

I don't know if anyone ever tried or succeeded, but AFAIK the only accessible PCIe lanes on the X240 are on the WiFi slot. Since there's a BIOS whitelist, you have to find a way to remove that first. If a no-whitelist X240 BIOS doesn't exist, then the mod is dead in the water.

Also, because you'll lose the WiFi and Bluetooth, you need to replace them with external USB equivalents.

Next would be to find a M.2 A-key to PCIe x16 adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/ADT-LINK-Convert ... B08HCXHHHW, but with a long enough and detachable cable. Otherwise, say goodbye to your X240's mobility. :(

Don't forget the PSU for the video card.
