The ebay seller described the X230T as used but otherwise fully functional.
It seems to be fine but for the Ethernet Port is broken and will not hold the Ethernet plug in securely.
Is the Ethernet Port soldered to the motherboard?
How hard is it to replace the Ethernet Port?
If I cannot do it myself, there is a Lenovo auth warranty shop called Granite Data Solutions locally.
Is this something that a competent service technician can do?
Or should I just return it to the seller for a refund?

The T430 has a small daughter-board 04W3690 which includes the same RJ45 ethernet port.
Get that 04W3690 cheap on eBay, the port itself is very hard to find.
Then have someone swap the X230t port for the T430 port, using his/her solder skills.

Yes, I see that the LENOVO THINKPAD T430 T430I X1 CARBON 1ST LAPTOP USB LAN PORT I/O BOARD 04W3690 ($13 on ebay) is not a direct fit.
But I can see how the RJ45 port could be unsoldered and removed and then resoldered in place of the X230T's defective Ethernet port.
What questions can I ask to determine if a tech has the knowledge and experience to do this job without buggering up the motherboard, etc.?

Anybody who knows how to properly use a soldering iron (and solder remover/sucker) will know how to do that.
You need to first remove/suck the solder from the 4 studs that hold the port and then from the 12 contact wires.
See the pictures from https://www.ebay.ie/itm/255165124755
But check first if the plug of your ethernet-cable is working OK before you start messing (use another laptop/PC).
