X250 Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

#1 Post by equal_frequency » Thu Aug 04, 2022 10:22 pm

Hello,

I've come across this error: "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I know it's very common, but I've tried almost everything to no avail. I wanted to see if there are any suggestions before I give up on it. This error occurred when I was swapping out my SATA SSDs (I've swapped it before without any issue), but the other day, the detection error appeared after swapping. So far, I've:

Bought a new SATA connector, which also results in the same error
Tried a different SSD (both SSDs work in a different computer)
Unplugged the CMOS battery for a few minutes and put it back in
Took out the external battery and put it back in
Clicked the button under the "Emergency-reset hole"
Stabilized SSD with a thin sponge
Unplugged internal battery
Tried "reinstalling" bios from USB, but utility doesn't let me since it's already up to date

Some more info:
* The bios works fine, I can also boot from USB as well
* Storage device does not appear at all in hardware diagnostics in bios
* Error does not show up when I detach the sata cable
* The pins on the motherboard appear to be fine, nothing noticeable
* At some point along the way, I experienced this: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comme ... power_led/, and resolved it via the reset button; i'm not sure if this has anything to do with the SSD detection issue.

My conclusion is that this is an issue with the motherboard, but it fascinates me because I do not recall doing anything that would cause this. If anyone has any suggestions, It'd be much appreciated. I'd hate to give up a usable piece of hardware :( Thanks in advance!

1. It could still be an issue with the SATA connector on the system board, albeit not visible with the naked eye.

2. Have you tried plugging in a hard drive? Maybe it's a power issue? If the HDD doesn't spin up, you'll know there's no power being supplied to it.

Sorry for the late response. I only recently got a 2.5" HDD to test and it doesn't spin when the computer is powered on. Looks like you were correct about it being a power issue :thumbs-UP: RIP computer

Don't give up hope yet!
Check the Fuse F1 near the HDD-connector.
It is an ERBRD3R00X (3A/32V/Fast).
You can solder a new one on top of the old one.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
