x280 weird power issues?

#1 Post by aroundincircles » Sat Dec 17, 2022 10:42 am

Have an x280, was working fine, but then it started to not shut down when I clicked on start>power>shut down. so I decided to try to just do a reinstall of the OS (nothing important on the laptop), and it took.. like two full days, now it's super slow, still won't power down when I try to shut it down, and overall just had weird issues, especially with sleep, it doesn't wake up if I close the lid, then re-open, it just half boots to a black screen. not sure where to even start.

Hi

Sounds like it might be CPU throttling? Have a look at the fan and vent on the CPU cooler?

I'm having weird x280 power issues too.

My x280 is plugged in, the "plug" symbol confirms it knows it's plugged in, but it says "not charging." Same result for both USB-C ports. Weird thing: it charges when powered off. For now I can work until the battery runs out, then need to turn it off to charge.

My drivers are up to date per https://pcsupport.lenovo.com and per Vantage.

A repair place says my motherboard is damaged (which is a bit odd -- the machine hasn't been dropped, or operated in a rainstorm, etc. -- just ordinary usage). Also, nothing else seems to be acting oddly. The machine works fine.

Battery threshold is definitely off.
