Thinkpad X230, Intel i5, 8GB RAM, GNU Linux Trisquel, OS boot, Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 4000 (IVB GT2)

Been having problems when watching YouTube. Sometimes the video freezes and becomes stuck in short audio loop during which the whole system freezes. No button combinations work. The battery has to be pulled and the need to restart laptop. I use Pale Moon 64 bit browser which is kept up-to-date. The Pale Moon dev points to an OS/Driver issue possibly being the problem. I was keeping the OS up-to-date with security only but have now implemented a full OS update.

Can the drivers for the Intel graphics be updated or is this machine now too old ? Would it be a case of keeping software as current as possible via the Trisquel repos ?

Thanks.

You're running Linux. The drivers are split between the kernel, xorg, mesa, and since your issue is related to video playback, vaapi.

Also, your problem may have a hardware component-- either there's a processor-related issue (like overheating, or an actual CPU defect) or even bad RAM (to the system RAM allocated to the Intel HD 4000 graphics).
