Email
management@lenovo.com and complain
That's what the online chat person told me

I was asking him about the rumor of the old keyboard layout as an option in August...

not to Discourage pple from doing above ..
But since the
WORLD WIDE PRODUCT MANAGER( for thinkpads) has left ........ those might get to a 'black hole' .... < see link for job advertised>
AFAIK.... that postion remains UNFILLED ; since early last year ..... and few internal pple have been running with things to keep the 'thinkpad brand' with updates etc ,,,
That the 'info' from our ACCOUNT MANAGER last time I saw him face2face ..... seems he not confortable/dont want to show face to accept negetive feedback from our users > as we hand him our 'printed sheets' of USER ISSUE for thinkpads'
Its good - more pple provide feedback = maybe LeNOVO might take notice - dont hold your breath !

I think I will place an order for a W520. Not being a fan of the new keyboard, it will probably be my last for a while.
If I wanted the chicklet keyboard I would save money and buy a ThinkPad Edge.

with all due respect, you might want to read the job description before claiming there's no WWPM for ThinkPad. the position you linked is neither for a WWPM nor for classic ThinkPad models. it's just a business marketing position with Edge.
lenovocareers.com wrote:In our quest we are seeking a Product Marketing Segment Manager for the ThinkPad Edge Product Group Business Unit focusing on our worldwide Ultraportable and Premium market segments. The position is based at our International Headquarters in Morrisville, NC.

I just did that. And for those reasons:
-7 row keyboard
-Less expensive
-eSataP
-Displayport not in -mini variety
If the W530 had the same 7-row keyboard as the W520 I might have gone for it. But waiting for a modified BIOS and spending another €80 for a 7-row keyboard made the price premium more than I think is justifiable.
Learn from musical instruments, Lenovo; the keys on a piano don't change every few years either! And while organs have the registers on different places, at least every register has it's own handle as opposed to pressing SHIFT+F10 for something that has always been done by pressing the menu key.

You people are a "stick in the mud"!

I am 60 and you all sound like you are 90! Most have been using that old T60 for so long that they are shocked that things have changed!
Good GRIEF! YES, they changed the keyboard. Many think it is a change for the best as far as tactile input, I do!
AND yes, after 20 years they have changed some of the keys around now so you will have a GIANT learning curve. You want different, go to another brand and use their keyboard!
Rant over

Obviously it was important to bump a 3 month old dead thread just to tell everyone that they are idiots.

No, I don't want different. If I wanted different, I'd buy a different brand a long time ago. I wanted this particular thing to stay the same, and this was why I was continuing to buy Lenovo. Now - there is no reason whatsoever for me to buy more Lenovo, and in fact I won't.

Just curious, are you a touch typist? Most non-touch typists would be clueless about how moving just one key could completely mess up the typing experience.

I am not but I used to be able to type program code and whatever else without looking at the keys.
Now after several months with the new layout I still make many errors per hour!

Yep the new keyboard layout is a deal breaker for me. The old keyboard was and is the best so obviously they have to fix something that is not broken. It would not be that difficult for them to offer it as an option.
Yes I can change and adapt....but ONLY if I have to and ONLY to a certain point. After a certain point I just get [censored] off and look elsewhere.

And another 6 months later I still haven't gotten used to the new layout even if I use it every day. I make silly errors several times every day.
I guess the rumours about the old style keyboard coming as an addon to the w530 was just that - a rumour?
Why did they remove the grouping of the F-keys? I used to be able to press F4, F8, F10, F11 without looking. Nowadays I have to look. And that is irritating when I'm debugging all the time.
And Home/End and PageUp/Down - I keep pressing Delete when I am reaching for PageUp and Backspace when PageDown. And depending on the app I am using this cost me anything from 3 secs to 10 minutes of repairing/redoing every time. I wish my boss would let me bill Lenovo for this.
But now I have ordered a dremel kit. And when it comes I will be making the missing gaps between the F-keys. And make som dents and grooves on the other difficult keys so perhaps my fingers will react before I accidentaly abort a large job by pressing the wrong keys.

Yes, a rumor. Not more.

They will bring the F-key grouping back on this years ThinkPads.

Thank you. But too little too late for us. We are currently testing laptops from various companies for our next orders, but no Lenovos this time.
I wonder what happens if I dremel away a little too much?
