Keyboard / mouse only opens menus on NEW W530

I just purchased a new W530. So far I love it, but twice now in one day the keyboard has gone haywire (or into an unknown mode). Instead of typing, different keys do different random actions like open menus (in chrome for example), or other random system functions. I have to restart the computer for the keyboard to return to normal.
Also, the mouse buttons do not work as intended. For example if I click on a shortcut button in a browser, the button will depress but nothing happens.

Both times this has happened has been while installing software. In the first case, while writing a batch file for program execution. In the second (the latest) case, installing Canon's Digital Photo Professional. Maybe these provide a clue to someone. But I've installed other software too without problems.

Thoughts?

Don't they say to close all other programs BEFORE you install a new program?
This also implies that you shouldn't do anything else (like browsing/typing) during that installation.
Most new programs also want you to reboot, once installation is done.
Perhaps you should be a little more patient?

Sounds like a stuck modifier (Ctrl/Alt/Shift) on the keyboard. Usually just pressing all these a couple of times frees whatever is stuck.

Generally they don't. Sometimes they do.

That's not a reasonable request in today's world. ;)

I daresay that such programs are actually a very small minority, definitely among new programs. Exceptions are applications that involve drivers or those that actually need to launch startup modules / services (e.g., anti-virus software)

Sounds like a sticky key to me too. Software loads shouldn't be a problem.
