W530 waking from sleep on it's own...

Hello there,

I recently purchased a W530 to replace my excellent but now retired W500. One problem I had with my W500, and now with my W530, is that the computer would wake up on it's own. I can't remember what I did to fix the issue in the past and I know I fixed it from searching forums before, but haven't found a solution yet for the W530.

"Allow Wake Timers" (power manager) and "Allow this device to wake the computer" (Intel 82579LM Gigabit network connection properties/power mangagement tab) are disabled. "30 Day Standby" is also disabled.

I find it interesting that both my W500 and W530 have the same issue. Both run Windows 7 Pro and have the same set of programs (a long list). I setup my W530 over the course of a week a few hours at a time and did not experience any waking from sleep issues. Now that it is completely setup it is waking from sleep within minutes to a couple hours of being put to sleep. This happens in my bag, on my desk, plugged or unplugged. The scariest thing for me is waking in my bag - I had some thermal issues with my W500 and have been scarred. I have been storing my computers (since the first week of owning my W500) with their exhaust ports facing up and leave the sleeves unzipped around the exhaust so the computer can breathe a little should it wake up. My W530 was left in my bag for 3 hours on Thursday when I found that is was awake and cooking itself.

Here is my current W530 configuration:
i7-3740QM, 8GB RAM, K1000M, 256GB Samsung 840 SSD, 500GB WD 7200 HDD (ultrabay), FHD, BL, 6205 Wifi, Fingerprint, W7 Pro (factory).

This is a refurbished machine from the outlet store, just like my W500. I wish I got the K2000M card, but the K1000M is fine and I can't complain for the price I paid.

Anyone have a solution for this issue? Thank you!

On a tangent: I have read a lot of reviews for this laptop and there are a lot of mixed feelings all around. I have been using this machine for a week and have already grown used to the keyboard. Some things are easier to access with one hand, like screen brightness and the Thinklight/Backlight (improvement from the W500), but there are some missing keys and the FN keys are in a row and no longer in groups of keys - unfortunate but I'll get over it. The lack of indicator lights are a bummer - you only have an antenna and data light on the inside, and a power and sleep light on the outside. The body feels a little more rigid - the base is thicker and the display is thinner. The FHD display is amazing for a laptop, but still use an external and calibrated IPS panel for color correct work in RGB - haven't calibrated the laptop display yet. I do not like the 16:9 format, but every computer is 16:9 these days. All in all, these "issues" are small and I am VERY happy with my purchase. I can adjust screen brightness and turn the backlight on with one hand, I can run FEA simulations in a tenth of the time, and the battery life is incredible for a workstation. Now if I can just get it to stay asleep...

I see that you have a Samsung SSD installed. If you also have the Samsung management software installed ("Magician"), then that's the likely culprit. This software wakes up my W530 after a few seconds, and there is nothing that I can do to prevent this. After deinstalling Magician, all was fiine again.

Thank you for the suggestion, Tinue. I waited week as the problem became intermittent, but finally uninstalled the "Magician" software and the wake problems disappeared completely. It has been about 3 weeks with no waking on it's own - I think my problem is solved.

Thanks!
