W540 Leaked?

Not sure if this is the right forum board...but
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/th ... 0/?redir=y
No specs up yet, if it gets taken down i have a screenshot...looks like a good upgrade. I have faith that Lenovo has worked hard to perfect the trackpad drivers.

Indeed, I'm really liking it. Still kinda disappointed that they aren't heading in the direction I want, but this newer line will be a lot better than from what I've been hearing. I think Lenovo got the memo about the TrackPoint. It is still looking vaguely like a grayed-out MacBook dressed as a Thinkpad, but it's still a long ways from being something that will completely dismay me.
If THIS laptop, the W540, gets the i7-4700MQ, I will actually consider buying one. But I doubt it'll get that one, probably a less powerful one that's *more efficient*. It's also probably not big enough to justify having a 4700MQ. But if it had one, I'd literally be between this W540 and a Sager NP9390 for a brand new workstation.
And yes... this sub-forum probably isn't the best place for this topic. It'd probably fit better under "GENERAL ThinkPad News/Comments & Questions".

I agree that there are some classic features that I will miss that are going by the wayside, but overall, I am supportive of the direction that the company is going. The touchpad on the W530 isn't very good, and it is (IMO) too small for a laptop of this size. I know I can't have my cake and eat it too, so I'm okay with sacrificing the physical buttons for size--as long as the driver stack is on point (so far looks to be that way). I am glad that a numpad is going to be on this machine though, the one thing I miss about my previous 17-inch laptop.
Lenovo offered the extreme processor on the W530, I have no reason to think they won't offer a full gamut of chips for the new version, including the i7-4700MQ.
The graphics options in the W530 are the biggest letdown IMO, I would like to see some more graphics cards (maybe some non-quadro powerhouses) available in the W540.

So is the W540 the real name for the "T540p" in this thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=11129
(with rumored high-res IPS display)

No, these are two different models, the T540p is the succesor to the T530 while the W540 is the succesor to the W530.

I bought a W530 two weeks ago and have another two weeks to return the laptop and get a refund (lenovo.com had a promotion thru Aug 31 to get a full refund if you return the machine)
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/th ... 0/?redir=y today Sept 5 has a few more details on the machine.
The w540 keyboard will have a numpad and thus have the keyboard shifted to the left, which I don't particularly like.
I never had a laptop with the keyboard and touchpad shifted to the left, so I don't know how that would be in one's lap, but I suspect it is not as good, a deal breaker, I don't know.
However other forums indicate that the touchpad will be much larger for Win 8 gestures. I already find the W530 touchpad to be horrific as is.
There is no data, but it is highly probably that an IPS display will be offered. In addition the Haswell processor will use less battery power. I'm not so keen on having an internal battery unless it is easy to replace.
I suspect though that the price with the new display, and the laptop being a new unit will have the price a fair amount higher than what I paid for the W530 (I got it on a 15% off sale and on a tax free weekend)
So it appears that the new features and positives may outweigh the negatives and I should get my W530 returned to lenovo next week to get the refund and then wait for the new W540.
Hard to decide. I hope all the details on the lenovo page might be filled in tomorrow.

After a few days you don't care about the touchpad (in fact, I much prefer the trackpoint

)
This W 540 looks boxy !?

W520 is not IPS. Period. It got one of the better TN panels though.
The addition of a numpad is nice, but that lack of 16:10, eSata, physical mousebuttons....

I would not out too much credibility in this post:

since he seems to be something of a liar or a spammer..
i'm not sure what his game is, yet..
I removed a similar post and deactivated his account yesterday..
he is posting from china yet entering a US location..
so I sent a PM but as I just discovered hes the same liar from yesterday I guess i'll deactivate this account and ban his IP..

You expect people to change their location when flying somewhere?

You expect people to change their location when flying somewhere?
yes, as their actual location changes from moment to moment or mile to mile and local, and national boundaries..
a constant stream of minute changes should be made..
ok, reality, of course not..
it is expected that the forum members location should be where they either live or spend most of their time or at least a close approximation since some would rather not reveal that they might reside in a city of a half million other residents..
I don't care but I DO care to keep this forum as spam free as possible and also free from scammers as well..
so if you are wanting to sell your used thinkpad a prospective buyer can have some small confidence that you have no reason to not be candid..
in this case the same guy from the same IP entered two different locations while he was in still on the same IP and making a post of questionable informative value..
I hope that clarifies this issue..
to further clarify it is my intention to keep this forum as clean and free from scams, spammers, google type ad popups and so forth..

Then the posts of "questionable informative value" are it. It's nothing new for people to use VPN / proxy.
