W540 i7 and 135W charger?

#1 Post by mitabreV » Thu Jul 24, 2014 5:19 am

I have W540 with i7 and K1100 graphics. It was delivered with 170W charger. My question is, will it work with 135W charger as well?

as long as the plugs are the same it probably will but won't charge as quickly..
try it and watch the charge rate in power manager..

Unless newer firmware has different power requirement, for reliable stable operation, i7+K1100M requires 170W.

Looks like there is a problem if a computer is in dock, but maybe it works ok without a dock and external monitor. I will get my hands on a 135W charger and try.

BillMorrow: thanks!:)

Well I got my 135W charger attached to a dock and I got the screen flickering and mouse & keyboard disconnecting/connecting issue too. But it makes no sense at all, the computer was idling the whole time, so it couldn't possibly draw an amount of power that would need a 170W charger..

p.s. If I attach a 90W charger to the dock, there is no flickering, no mouse & keyboard problems, only difference to 170W is, that the computer is not charging.
