W530 -- Suddenly dead video card? (Quadro K1000M)

I've had my W530 for two years with no problems. Tonight my external monitor suddenly started flashing as though Windows kept re-recognizing it, then I got a BSOD. On restart no external monitors work (I tried two just in case).
I had a year warranty but didn't extend it, so this is out of warranty now sadly.

I notice that no NVIDIA applications were loaded on startup, they are actually suddenly missing from msconfig; they used to be there.
TP hardware diagnostic scan cannot find the Quadro K1000M video card: "Error code WVC000000-WKSVAE"
Device manager for the Quadro K1000M entry says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
I'm unable to launch any NVIDIA application, eg NVIDIA Control Panel. No error message when trying but nothing happens.

Did the video card just suddenly die? Thoughts?

EDIT: Oddly, google shows only one dead video card hit for the W530.
EDIT2: Neither output port works in any configuration: DSUB and DisplayPort are both dead.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Reverting the system to an earlier date/time?

I'd uninstall and re-install the nVidia driver to see whether that yields a change of any kind...

Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas. No change on safe mode. Also, I reloaded the drivers and actually with a slightly updated version, no change.
Given how the video failed, how could it be a driver issue?

It's called "grasping at straws" in hopes that the driver got corrupted and the system went haywire. But you were not that lucky, I guess...

Time for a planar swap.

Got it ;) What do you all recommend for a motherboard swap, should I send to Lenovo, or...? This is my 4th thinkpad, but I've never had to replace the motherboard on any of them.
This system is out of warranty by now.

Lenovo would charge you an arm and a leg...so I honestly wouldn't take that route.

Replacing the board with the little help from HMM is not the biggest of deals.

Personally, I'd post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the forum's Marketplace. Presuming that you're in the U.S. there are several forum members here that could sell you a known good, properly tested board as well as swap it for you if you're not comfortable doing so yourself.

Good luck.
