Can I turn my CMOS startup password on and off?
Can I turn my CMOS startup password on and off?
W530. I want to set a CMOS/BIOS password on startup for when I travel. I want to be able to turn it off when I am home. I have not set one yet for fear I will not be able to turn it off.

To do so, you still need to go into BIOS every time you want to change the setting!
AFAIK with newer BIOSes like your W530 you need to set at least a Power-On-Password and ENable its Password Status.
Then when you want a password to be active, you ENable "password at unattended boot" and "password at restart".
When back home, DISable both should do it.
Try it.

Thanks RBS
I can toggle it on and off by doing what you said.
Additionally:
To disable the Power On Password, one selects Enter as if entering a PW. It takes you to change PW. First, enter current PW, enter nothing (blank) for New PW, and nothing again for Confirm PW. Then it prompts you to save the BIOS change. After saving it sets the Power On Password to disabled automatically.
