So i finally did it. I have been an owner of several thinkpads (i.e i still own all of them) and they are all "pimped" out:
T61 (middleton) with added 1440x1050, 2.5 ghz c2d, 7260 AC wifi, 8GB, dual SSD (win7x64 and OSX Sierra), X61 (middleton), 2.2ghz c2d, 240gb SSD, 8GB and T410 with 1440x900, 8GB, dual SSD (win7x64 + OSX Sierra).
Always wanted a portable with as much ram as possible as a desktop replacement and have looked at the W-range for some time (had it in the past as a work pc. Have currently a T560 but that is not within my budget currently). Long story short. I bid on and won a W530 the other day on ebay. Its got 8gb ram currently and nvidia 1000 gpu (which is not important). This particular machine i presume has got 2x4gb ram sticks in it. I realize that it takes ddr3 sodimms, but for when purchasing new memory (24-32gb is my aim), what speed of ram should i aim for? What can it take?)
Also, i have read on multiple places that there exists no bios mod for this model due to it having encrypted bios (hybrid uefi/bios), but at the same time, i read about whitelisting removal. What gives?
I do develop using (currently) Oracle SOA suite (WebLogic, OSB, Eclipse, SoapUI, etc) and notice that i sniff the 16gb mark om my work thinkpad (T560) easily, hence the reason for going >16GB.

Bios-mods.com says, for whitelist removal, you need a programmer.
The white list allows you to install any wi-fi card, not just those that allow lenovo

Mydigitallife says, you can flash slic using DOS
