Does the W530 with Nvidia Quadro K1000m allow for CUDA programming?

#1 Post by paulwece » Mon Jul 03, 2017 1:32 pm

I'm about to take a parallel programming class in Fall and they use CUDA.

I'm thinking about buying a refurbished W530 but I'm not sure if that GPU allows it.

I see refurbished ones go for $300ish on Ebay and I believe it's a good buy. Even though it's old, that machine can easily handle today's tasks right?

I pretty sure it has 192 CUDA cores. That should mean it supports it but someone more experienced can confirm this.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Yes it does! The k1000m has a minimum rating of 3.0 which is works for most environments like Tensorflow with GPU support. I would recommend using Cuda on Ubuntu 16.04 with an SSD and a min of 8GB Ram.
If you have or get Ubuntu make sure you use driver version 375!
