W530 - the display is too yellow and saturated

#1 Post by Wiking » Tue May 08, 2018 3:11 pm

Recently I switched from my beloved T420 (1600x900) to W530 with FHD.
I thought that the display will be much better but after a couple of days, I find its colors too saturated, too yellow and generally have worse display experience then I have with t420.
My eyes exhausted quicker and I'm trying to find a solution.
Tried few color profiles that I found over the net but it doesn't help.
Now I'm thinking of buying a new display panel (the original is from 2012) and hope that this will help.
Any suggestions from you guys ?
Lior

Maybe some issue with color profiles or calibration?
Maybe you can adjust the gamma manually.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

I Second that.
Can you get your hands on a calibration tool?
My T430S looked like it was constantly on bluelight filter until I calibrated it. Makes a huge difference. :)

No calibration tool near me.
Are there any profiles that will be just natural?
All that I found are to yellow or dark or just not right.
Can I port the profile from my t420 ? I have v4 model screen but can it be just too old ? No dead pixels, just the image is too "noisy" and pain to the eyes. Tried with increased light and decreased too.

2 separate screens can actually look very different even with the same profile, so there's no real alternative to calibrating the screen. There are links out there to help you get it done manually, but it takes a bit of patience to get it right.

There are few color profiles files for gratis download in the webs. Checks this thread as example: click me!

More also available in the German Wiki check the table at the end of the page: http://thinkwiki.de/Farbkalibrierung

I uploaded mine to my web (6500k, 2.2 gamma, calibrated using Spyder3Express), url address: https://myjursky.php5.sk/ine/?dir=thinkpad/icm_profiles
But you definitely should get a color calibration tool, it's worth the money, I think (says somebody who is not actually into photohraphy/graphics). This HCG (High Color Gamut) screen definitely needs to be calibrated before actual use. 95% of AdobeRGB is really something. :) Although it's just a TN panel, I'd say it still performs better than IPS panel in my x240, but it is not good for work (too distracting). But for movies and gaming, there is probably no better screen in laptops (imho).

I use it for web, movies and word mostly.
I will try your profile and come back.

Sorry but the colors are still annoying to the eyes.
Maybe will best to by a palm rest with color sensor ? The price isn't too high and this way I will be able to calibrate it properly. With new screen I won't be sure that the colors are good.
Also, I will try windows 10... perhaps something will be better.

Yeah, just get a color calibrator. Every LCD is worn out differently. But I read on different forums that the calibrator integrated in palmrest of W530 is not that good, so maybe you should get a dedicated one, such as Spyder (Datacolor) or xRite (Pantone). But I never seen result of that palmrest calibrator myself, so cannot judge.
