W530 WQHD in 2018

#1 Post by emulate-atg » Fri Oct 05, 2018 11:33 pm

Hello all,

I have been searching online for a few days, but I can't seem to find much information if at all about modding a WQHD (1440p) screen into the W530. I supposed that the T430 mod might work, but I have not gone through the process of buying off of taobao or whatever since I wasn't sure.

Has anyone here ever performed this mod on their W530?
If it was recent, do you have information about what panels would work for it?

Were you able to get a LVDS panel (although I think the resolution might be too high for LVDS) or are there options for edp?

If EDP is the way to go, what are the backlight issues?

Sorry for all the questions I am new to both screen mods and to the specifics of doing them with a W530.

I, too, would be interested in upgrading the screen in my W530. Mine has the Pantone Color Calibrator in the palm rest. Would modding the screen prevent the color calibrator from working properly?

I don't have the Pantone Color Calibrator in my W530 but I hardly think that it would stop working if you modded the screen to higher resolution/backlight technology. Most likely the calibrator in your palmrest will still be compatible even with newer screen. But can't say that for sure, I personally I am using external USB Spyder3 calibrator.
X230, X1C7 and B156HW01 V.4 (from a W530 ThinkPad) used as an external monitor using LCD controller board.

Hi,friend
We can driver it in W530 Mod with the T420 / T430 WQHD kit with 14" 2K screen , and it work. But the W530 laptop is with 15.6" screen, and none of this style 2K Screen. We are test with a 3K Screen in W530 , but no successful yet. For the W530, We can driver it in the DP extend port with 3K Screen, but failed to driver it with integrated graphics.

I'm interested in installing even a better FHD in W530. Is there an existing kit which would allow that?

I've seen they do sell an eDP FHD IPS kit for 15.6" ThinkPads. However there already exist some LVDS FHD IPS screens that are plug and play without a mod.
