Can't boot W530 with VT-d and discrete graphics - should I upgrade BIOS?

Hi. I've got a W530 that I run with discrete graphics enabled.

I've had both the Virtualization and VT-d settings disabled in the BIOS, but now need to use virtual machines.

Things work fine when I enable the Virtualization setting, but when I turn on VT-d the machine won't boot. I get a black screen. It appears to be a known issue when both discrete graphics and VT-d are enabled.

I'm running BIOS 2.55, dated 2013-09-13. Before updating it (in the hope the bug might be fixed) I thought I should double check that this wasn't going to have other potentially unfortunate side effects (such as the unfortunate BIOS version 2.82 that they recently released for the T430, preventing people from updating the embedded controller code - see this comment from Hamish Cole).

Update: I've just discovered that if I select Optimus and VT-d that I can boot and that my virtual machines seem to run fine. I'd still be interested to know whether it'd be a good idea to install a more recent BIOS though. It sounds like it should be, but you never know with these binary blobs...

All thoughts appreciated, cheers.

I wouldn't update the BIOS if things are working fine now and you don't have a reason to.
