W/T530 CPU Mod - HSF 04W3626 / 04W3623 sufficient?

I'm looking at upgrades to my W & T530's. The HSF's listed on the Lenovo website have no indication of their power capacity. I'm wondering if anyone knows which HSF's are sufficient for the upgrade?

W530 i7-3940XM upgrade:
Present HSF 04W3626
The other option is 04W3627

T530 i7-3840QM upgrade:
Present HSF 04W3623
The other options are 04W3622 and 04W3624

That 04W3622 is available but quite expensive. The other two I have not been able to find anywhere.

I'm hoping the HSF's that I have are sufficient, but I have my doubts. According to this T430 Modding Guide, the HSF's with the Delta fan are insufficient. Apparently those fans are quieter but don't do as good a job cooling. It just so happens that my present HSF's have that fan. So maybe my 04W3626/3 were the HSF's made for lower power?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Sorry RBC. I was using "Delta" to refer to the HSF assembly. Those FRU's are all for HSF's. So I'm really asking which of the HSF's are necessary/sufficient for the upgrade.

You don't understand... HSF a.k.a. Heat Sink Fan.
The heat sink itself is the chassis for a fan (such as I linked).
The same fan can often fit in various heat sinks with some modifications.

The Lenovo website lists those FRU's, which are Heatsink Fan (HSF) assemblies, with names: "Delta," "AVC," "Furukawa." That's why I used those names in referring to the assembly as a whole. I'm sorry if that got confusing. Hopefully my edits have clarified the OP.

And theoretically/probably each group (iGPU or dGPU) could have the same chassis, but with a fan from a different manufacturer (such as Delta, AVC, Furukawa, Toshiba).
That's why you should look for a specific fan (to swap in) if your chassis is OK!

Ok, I'm really sorry that I produced confusion by bringing up these different fans at all.

To put it simply, I'm wondering which HSF's are going to be ok for the upgrades. Right now I have 04W3626 (W530) and 04W3623 (T530).

Alternatives are 04W3627 (W530) and 04W3622 / 04W3624 (T530). There is no information on the Lenovo site about one vs. another being higher power.

Footnote: Why did I bring up the fan at all? Because (1) the Lenovo site associates each of those FRU's - which are HSF's! - with a specific fan manufacturer and (2) because the T430 guide linked in the OP, expresses concern about one particular manufacturer. But what I want to know is which of those HFS's will work for the upgrade.

PS. After we get this straightened out, we'll have a Guinness together.

I'm finally getting around to setting up a W530 with i7-3940XM that I purchased in 2018. It came with a faulty (loud, rattling) fan so I ordered a replacement part shortly thereafter. The part I purchased was a 04W3626 (Delta); I'm not sure if it was a conscious decision to pick it over the 04W3627 (AVC), but I don't think the difference in cooling performance between the two FRUs was on my radar at the time.

A few days ago I installed the new Delta cooler with Noctua NT-H2. After flashing 1vyrain, I set about testing overclocking with ThrottleStop but found that even with stock multipliers, Prime95 was causing the CPU to generate an amount of heat that I wasn't comfortable with, going up to 98 degrees or so in about five minutes. I'm usually pretty content to not tweak my computers so I'm not an expert with regards to overclocking, but given that the junction temperature for the i7-3940XM is 105 degrees, I don't think I can recommend overclocking it with the Delta installed.

It's a bit disappointing because I was hoping to be able to overclock at least a bit - but if you end up buying an AVC, I would be interested in knowing if you have more success. I'm actually typing this on a different W530, with i7-3840QM, and I'm tempted to open it up to see which cooler it has.

Edit: Just popped off the keyboard and palm rest on my other (actually first) W530 and it does indeed have an AVC cooler. I'll make the switch hopefully tomorrow and then report back with results.

I made the swap today and it seems to have worked out. This is just preliminary testing, but under the same conditions, the maximum core temperature under Prime95 is 90 degrees after five minutes (and 93 degrees after 20 minutes). It's still not a ton of thermal headroom for overclocking, but I'm happy with the improvement presented by the AVC relative to the Delta.

i would be somewhat cautious of trying to push this cpu too far on this machine. I also have the 3940xm installed in my machine (with 3 SSDs - ordinary drive bay, dvd-replacement + wwan slot) and i saw some.. well "higher" temperatures as well when i installed the xm-cpu. I did what i easily 'could' do at the time, i bought the Kryonaut paste (and let me tell you that it was not very easy to find as it was sold out everywhere) and re-pasted the lot by the book. After this, i saw a substantial reduction in temperature from what it used to be. I don't push it very hard for now (probably will not do it at all going forward) but the most i see is ~84 celcius which i guess is within the acceptible boundaries.
