L430 green blinking power button, won't boot

#1 Post by mautothewow » Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:44 pm

I have a video I can show of the issue, but can't figure out how to attach it.

Anyway, here is what's going on:
Lenovo L430 was working fine, then just shut down last week when it was very low battery (maybe completely low).

Then when I tried to plug it in, leave it for a bit, then boot it up, it would not boot up. No fan sounds. Only an intermittently blinking green power button and battery status indicator.

L430 manual says...

"Battery status indicator:
Slow blinking green: The battery charge level is between 20% and 80% and the battery is charging."

It doesn't say anything about a blinking green power button.

All it mentions for the Power Button is, "Green: the computer is turned on. This status indicator stays lit whenever the computer is on"

I bought a new charger adapter/plug thinking that was the issue. No dice.

I bought a new charging port and replaced it (currently in the computer). Same blinking green light.

Any advice as to what would allow my computer to boot up?

Take the battery out, disconnect the charger.
Then hold down the power-button for 20 seconds.
Install just the charger and try to boot.
If OK, leave it on and insert the battery.
If the machine "dies", replace the battery.
Otherwise leave it charging.

Did what you suggested. Took the battery out, unplugged, held power button down for about 2 minutes. Plugged back in. Still just a blinking green light. Nothing changes when I hit the power button. Put battery back in. Battery indicator shows it's charging. Power button blinks green. Nothing happens when I hit power button.

I even installed two brand new RAM sticks. Nada.

Any other ideas?

If there is no password in the BIOS, remove battery, charger, the HDD/SSD and also the CMOS battery.
Leave it out for a minute or so, then put it back.
This will hard-reset the laptop.
Put in only AC, and try to boot.
If it now works, it should complain about Date/Time, so go into BIOS, set date/time, then also press F9 to set the BIOS values to default.
Press F10 to save and reboot.
If still OK, switch off, and put the rest back in.
