Which SSD in L470 WWAN-slot?

#1 Post by defaultusername123 » Sat May 29, 2021 8:58 pm

i want to install a second ssd in my L470 into the wwan wireless slot as i dont use my broadband modem

i found this page 96 to 98 https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobi ... 960_02.pdf

im not sure if i need a m.2 2242 SSD, or a m.2 2280

from what i gather the m.2 2242 ssd will fit in the wan slot ?https://ibb.co/YjPBs5N

and the m.2 2280 is for the harddrive/ssd bay as it seems to be a bit larger the the 2242 ? https://ibb.co/XYWyPDY

ive tried asking this question on na few forums but no one can give me a answer the above screen shots are taken from the pdf link from above.

The 2242 means: 22mm wide, 42mm long (fits WWAN + HDD/SSD slots)
The 2280 means: 22mm wide, 80mm long (fits only HDD/SSD slot)

However, in the WWAN-slot you can only put an M.2 SATA drive, NOT the M.2 NVMe.

It seems L470 can take either SATA or NVMe, most likely depending on model.
Although the general advice is still SATA.
Haven't seen a T470/L470, so I'm not sure here.
And your youtube link is for a Dell, different kettle of fish!

yeah im talking about a L470 for the wwan upgrade, i thought the wwan slot inside the dell would be the same size that is inside the l470 hmmm still not sure how to get a solid answer oi whats going to work exactly or fit in my wwan slot at this stage im just going to buy the two different types n hopefully one works there appears to be two different end tip connectors on the M.2 2242 that are available ...

this is giving me a headache for such a simple task lol i emailed Lenovo and they couldn't give me a answer. they said a SSD would work in the wwan slot but wouldn't specify what sort .
