L460 M.2 2242 SSD compatibility on WWAN slot

#1 Post by digiwizkid » Thu Apr 15, 2021 10:42 am

Hi!
I am planning to add an M.2 2242 SSD on the WWAN slot along with my 500 GB SATA drive.
I have searched over youtube and google but not found any example for L460 but there is one video on L440, where he is using M.2 SSD on the WWAN slot and is able to boot from it. The link to that video is below-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neYeDP3w2iY

Apart from this, I checked with one SSD vendor regarding this and he is saying only PCIe M.2 2242 Gen3*4 NVME SSD will work on L460

On the official Lenovo ThinkPad L460 parts page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/in/en/prod ... compatible), there are two M.2 SSD listed as compatible.

Namely - 128G, M.2, 2242, SATA6G, LTON, STD SOLID STATE DRIVES 00JT094 and 128G,M.2,2242,SATA6G,LIT,STD 00UP432

Anyone tried to install any of the above and what is the result?

Thanks
ThinkPad L460 Ubuntu 20.04

It supports M.2 2242 SATA SSD as a boot drive.
I have made a detailed installation video of it- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxjYieExD2s

Thanks
