Win 10 on a P40

I have a dual boot set up with Win 7 and XP. It runs fine, but I'd like to clear the partitions and upgrade to Win 10. My machine has a 1.7 gig processor and two gigs of memory. I was looking at the requirements for running Win 10 and they're pretty low; 1 gig processor that supports supports PAE, SSE2 and NX, 1 gig of ram, 16 gig hard disk space, DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM drive. I suppose getting drivers to work would be a problem; but some guys are using Win 10 on HP Mini 110 netbooks with a 32-bit 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor and 1GB of memory. Has anyone tried doing this?

I ran Windows 8.1 on a T43 with 2ghz pentium M cpu, 2GB ram and X300 gpu just to see how it would fair. Performance was decent most of the times, but slow sometimes. Overall, it was an OK experience. I cannot imagine Windows 10 being usable (even if it installs) on a machine with the specs you have given.

Windows 10 will only work on Sonoma standard Thinkpads (T43/P, R52/P, X41) and later since Win8 and later requires Physical Address Extension (PAE) support in addition to SSE2. I have a T42 which is currently stuck on Win7 even though it has the 1.80 Ghz Pentium M Processor with 2 gigs of ram while I have a 14" and a 15" T43 in Windows 10.
