Is this a good deal? Looking for a 12-14 inch laptop for basic home use

Hello friends,

Happy holidays. I have a quick question. I am looking for a 12-13 inch laptop for general home use:

1) Internet browsing

2) Some youtube/Netflix

3) Basic MS office, nothing requiring heavy processing

4) No gaming

5) Maybe some multimedia e.g. a movie

I would prefer a smaller screen size, as I already have a full sized laptop.

I saw a deal for a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12 Ultrabook -Intel Core i3-5005U-4GB RAM-500GB HDD-Win8Pro for $469.01

1) Is this a good deal

2) Is this model suitable for my needs or is it under/over specs?

Thank you,
desidude

I suggest looking for a used 13.3" Thinkpad X1 (non-Carbon).
They have 'only' 1366x768 LCD, but can be turned up very bright for use outside.
They also have glossy Gorilla glass in front of the screen.
Those are rock solid machines, which can take 4GB or 8GB RAM (1 slot only) , and have a standard 2.5" HD/SSD bay.

Can't comment on price (from CAD)

The Yoga 12 is rather thick but it does a good job at being a powerful tablet and notebook (hybrid device). I doubt you will fully utilize the hybrid feature though

My only reservation would be the paltry 4GB of RAM. For streaming videos I think a model with 8GB of RAM would serve you better.
