writeit Thinkpad Yoga 12 Windows 8

I cannot get writeit to work like it's supposed to work. It's supposed to let me click on a text box, it turns to green, and then I use the pen to write in words and it turns to or suggests actual typewritten words. I can draw all over the place in a writeit screen which I can never get to go away unless I delete it.

I cannot click with the pen or my finger into any text box and get a green box so I can enter handwriting. I have searched and searched and read what little I could find and cannot figure out how to get this to all work. Any tutorial I've found just shows it in action, does not show how to get it to work. I cannot even do the tutorial part where I try it. I've only had this a couple of days. I got this model specifially for the pen input. I apparently need very explicit step by step instructions on how to get this to work. I tried a reinstall but that failed twice.
