#1 Post by abl » Thu May 05, 2016 11:36 am

Does anyone know if this is out yet? Or when it will come out?

See: http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPa ... ga_1st_Gen

There are two models with OLED listed there, both in WE. I guess it will launch a bit later in North America.

Thanks! Is there any way to tell when they'll launch in North America? It's a bummer it looks like they might only be available with 8gb RAM.

(Also, to what does the "WE" country code refer?)

If it's out in Western Europe, has anyone seen any reviews of the computer with the OLED screen? I'd be curious to hear how it works in practice (for battery in particular).

Not as yet AFAIK, i've been eyeballing the usual suspects for it.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (OLED) Convertible Review
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Thi ... 458.0.html

The display backlight flickers at 240 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 % and below.

As it is common for OLEDs, we can see some ghosting during the burn-in test. It shows a static chessboard pattern for ten minutes and then switches to a completely gray picture. You can still see a weak shadow of the pattern on the gray screen after ten minutes, but this effect is gone after a little while. Ghosting is still something you should keep an eye on. Lenovo does offer a corresponding option in the preloaded Settings app. You can adjust that certain parts of the screen, which are shown permanently (like the task bar), are darkened after a certain time. This is supposed to avoid ghosting and increase the lifetime of the panel. Only time will tell how the OLED screen performs in the long run.

The more white the display shows, the higher the consumption. If you have a darker or almost black picture, the device is more frugal than IPS rivals. However, it will consume much more when the picture is completely white.

Good IPS panel wihout all these cutting costs tricks would be probably still better and safer (lifespan) option.

Fantastic. Seeing as:
1. I've been waiting for OLED laptops for years.
2. I use almost exclusively terminals with black backgrounds.
3. Plus firefox plugins to make backgrounds black.
The battery should be no problem.

Now, there only must come a model with matte screen. In other words, oled must proliferate to all branches, not only yoga. Then I buy it.

The lifespan of the display is. Wondering whether there is 4yrs+ADP warranty extension option that covers the OLED display part.

OLED needs a cover glass, so it won't ever be matte.

Non-reflective Gorilla glass was introduced years ago for laptops. Yet, not a single laptops actually uses it today. By the time we actually see non-reflective glass on laptop screens, we will probably have already moved away from OLED.
