Yoga 3-11 how to restore system ID to a machine?

#1 Post by friedrich-eugen » Sat Jul 22, 2017 9:53 am

Problem:

A rebuilt Yoga 3-11, (Windows 10 Pro) fully installed and equipped (among others) with the appropriate Lenovo-Software, does not know itself (System ID invalid), and therefore not read Lenovos Updates.

I used to restore these info to my machines (after repair) by the help of thinkpad-tools. Any advice, which tool should suit my needs? Help and hints wqelcome!!

Only REAL Thinkpads can use the HMD. :|
Others with UEFI-BIOS need other means.
See if any of this helps: viewtopic.php?t=122831

What is the exact Error message?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

The machine is a Yoga 3-11(70) or better 71 (as it is the a (little) bit "quicker" system Board (Intel Core M-5Y71).

Message (system companion) is:
-- Ideapad SN: invalid,
-- System-ID: invalid.

The lack of a serial does seem natural as it is said to be new, the lack of a system-ID is irritating, as it should be written as part of the production process.

Thanks for any advice

Lenovo is not prepared to help...

... as it was not them, that did exchange systemboard, ssd and keyboard (german) ...

I shall try it myself ... again.

Re: Yoga 3-11 how to restore system ID to a machine? NOT SOLVED

Lenovo refused to help, the point being, that I obviously had a new board, that I did use to refurbish a dead machine (successfully), but it was not Lenovo that did it.
So, as I do not have the tool to write the neccessary info to the board, I'll have to visit Lenovo now and than in order to renew the systemsoftware if necessary as necessary.

Thanks

P.S.: I do believe that the Yoga-design, slim and sleek as it is, has a thermal problem. The hardware (the one I have) does become rather hot, life probably will be shorter. I suspect that that was the reason the "old" board died. You rarely find one with the specs mine has.
