Yoga 460 can't handle 1080p 60fps videos on Youtube -- why?

#1 Post by tanstaafl » Sat Sep 28, 2019 7:37 pm

I have two Thinkpad Yoga 460's, both with 8gb ram, i5-6200u, Intel HD 520 graphics, and Windows 10 x64. Neither one can handle YouTube videos at 1080p 60fps on FireFox. Why is that? I have Latitude e7450 with inferior specs (i5-5200u & Intel 5500 graphics) that has no problem at 1080p 60fps. Heck, my Yoga 12 has no problem with 1080p 60fps YouTube videos. So why does the Yoga 460 choke on them? (It's not the hard drives; one of the Yoga 460's has a Samsung EVO 860 ssd and the other has a Silicon Power ssd.)

Are you certain the Yoga CPU is running at maximum performance? Did you test this on battery or AC? Internal display or external one?

I assume you always use Firefox, on the other systems as well? Same version? Just to rule out the browser as the culprit.

If all else fails, try enhanced h264ify?
It can switch between VP8/VP9 or h264 codecs, or if you can't get 60fps to work at all, you can outright block 60fps videos altogether!
